WHAT YOU CAN DO

Here's what you can do to support our campaign against seismic blasting

1. Sign the petition to abolish SPA permits

Special Prospecting Authority permits are a cheap and easy way for companies to buy access to large areas of ocean to conduct seismic blasting. The Australian Marine Conservation Society have a petition to abolish SPA permits. Please also share the link to your social media!

Sign the petition here.

2. Email the PM urging him to declare a moratorium on seismic blasting

Send an email to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese urging him to declare a moratorium on seismic blasting until the recommendations from the 2021 'Making Waves' Senate Inquiry are acted upon.

Click here to send an email to the PM

3. Write to your local MP

Writing a letter to your MP is a powerful way to show your concern about seismic blasting. Let them know that you do not want seismic blasting and new gas development off of the Victorian coastline. Writing your own email will have the most impact, but you can also send a pre-filled letter below.

Click here to send a pre-filled letter to your MP.

4. Request a meeting with your local MP

You don't need to be an expert to meet with your MP! You just need to be a concerned constituent. Your MP is there to represent you and listen to your concerns. The more people that are requesting a meeting with their MP shows that there is great concern for this issue.

5. Share information on social media

Follow us on instagram @oceanclimatenetwork or Facebook at OCEAN, and share our posts throughout your networks.

6. Host a Southern Blast screening with your mates

Southern Blast, a film by Surfrider Foundation Australia is now available online. Host a screening at home with your mates, and get everyone inspired to help save the Southern Ocean from seismic blasting. Click here for Southern Blast.

7. Donate to OCEAN

One of the best ways you can support is to donate to help fund our campaign against seismic blasting. OCEAN is a small community group, so we rely on small grants and donations from the community to fund our work. Click here to make a donation.

8. Volunteer with OCEAN

If you want to do more than send letters and sign petitions, then please express your interest in volunteering with OCEAN. Send us an email with your skills and how you may be valuable to the campaign, and we may be able to find something for you.

Send an email to info@ocean.org.au.

9. Raise awareness in your neighbourhood

Spread the word about seismic blasting in your neighbourhood by putting up posters, handing out flyers, or doing letter box drops. We'll give you the resources you need to help spread the word.

If you're interested in any of this, send us an email at info@ocean.org.au.

OCEAN operates on the traditional lands of the Gadubanud and Gulidjan people of the Eastern Maar Nation.  We understand their land was never ceded and that reconciliation cannot happen without acknowledging the truth around those events. We pay our respects to all First Nation Elders past, present and those emerging.
